1963

The modular Ateljee armchair is a 1963 design that is a timeless standard for sustainable ergonomic innovation in furniture design.

The Ateljee has a lightweight tubular steel frame complemented by removable seat cushions and wooden side panels. Its modular construction allows the chair to be a single-seater armchair or extend to a sofa of any length. The seat cushions are upholstered in fabric or with a naturally dyed and tanned semi-aniline leather, which acquires a patina over time. The armrests are fastened to the side panels with screws, while all the other components remain unattached and are easy to repair or replace. The headrest attaches effortlessly to the backrest with metal brackets, requiring no additional installation.

The Ateljee armchair exemplifies Kukkapuro’s vision of sustainable, modular design. Inspired by the structure of metal tubular beds, Kukkapuro reimagined their principles for use in seating, creating a system that is both easily disassembled and durable. Every Ateljee armchair and sofa is produced in Finland in a transparent supply chain.
