Irmeli Kukkapuro

Artist Irmeli Kukkapuro (1934–2022) began her career as a painter, but in the 1970s she studied lithography and Japanese woodcut techniques. Later her works grew into powerful compositions with abstract colour surfaces that have dynamic power. By combining constructivist forms, hand-carved woodcut bases and mystical patterns, Irmeli’s art became a distinctive mix of traditional woodcuts and modern abstract art.
